Overseas Chinese in Australia had a gala night yesterday when an
entertainment show, aiming at promoting the World Expo 2010 Shanghai, was staged
in Sydney.
The show, part of the series of events to promote the Expo, called people
in Australia to pay more attention to the Expo and have a more active
participation in it.
Many artists performed on the stage. Some sang Beijing Opera, some showed
Chinese kongfu and a waltz named the Sound of Huangpu River concluded the show.
The waltz was composed by overseas Chinese and performed by nearly 100 artists.
Overseas Chinese in Australia are passionate about the Expo. They establish
a committee to regularly promote the Expo and decide to organise a large-scale
campaign every year until 2010 to support the Expo.
The Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, Shanghai Chinese Overseas
Friendship Association, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Shanghai
Municipal People’s Government, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in
Australia and the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Sydney
all render great support to their activities.
