The Shanghai local authority has attached importance to the protection of
historic buildings and folk remains for long, and therefore it is quite sure
that those historic buildings located in the Expo Park will be well reserved by
all means, told Jiao Yang, Spokeswoman of Shanghai Municipal Government at a
regular press conference yesterday.
“There is no need to worry about the survival of historic buildings in the
construction of Expo Park”, she added.
Officers proposed a most strict protection system for those cultural legacies
as early as 2003 on a city planning work conference, Jiao said.
Shanghai was appraised as the national famous historical and cultural city by
the Sate Council in 1986. Since then Shanghai has successively confirmed 2,138
outstanding historic architectures, totaling about 4 million square meters in
632 sites, 61 of which are cultural relics.
Besides, Shanghai are now preparing extending the protection range and
strengthening the measures as well.
