On December 3 in 2003, the World Expo 2010 Shanghai Emblem Solicitation &
Collection Office (hereinafter referred to as the Office for short) initiated
the solicitation and collection of proposals worldwide and in April in 2004, the
World Expo 2010 Shanghai China Organizing Committee (hereinafter referred to as
the Committee for short) was established. To promote the emblem solicitation and
collection, the name of the Committee was used on June 18 in 2004 and the
original deadline for the event (June 28, 2004) was postponed to July 31, 2004.
A total of 9,046 pieces of work were collected, 8,568 pieces of which were
valid. Among the total, 8,461 pieces of valid works were from the country's all
provinces, autonomous regions (except Tibet), municipalities under the direct
administration of the Central Government, Hong Kong and Macao SARs and Taiwan
Province, with the rest 107 valid pieces coming from 13 countries such as the
United States, Britain, Canada, Australia, Poland, Japan, Singapore,
Switzerland, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
After experts'review and examination, 100 pieces of work were primarily
chosen and 10 outstanding pieces were selected, based on which the emblem of
Shanghai World Expo 2010 was finalized after drawing on opinions from all
circles of life. Hereby, the names and the work units of the authors of the
final winner, the 10 outstanding pieces and the 100 primarily chosen pieces of
work are disclosed as follows:

Donghua University (78 pieces,) Jilin College of the Arts(66 pieces,) Shanghai
Normal University (51 pieces,) Shanghai Institute of Technology (51 pieces,)
Nanjing Arts Institute (50 pieces) and Shanghai Jiaotong University. (50
pieces.)
The Committee will present the winning certificate and a bonus of 200,000
yuan to the final winner, a certificate and a bonus of 5,000 yuan to each of the
10 authors of outstanding works, and a commemorative certificate to the authors
of the 100 primarily chosen works. The Committee will also issue certificates
for outstanding organization to the above-stated 11 professional institutions,
colleges and academies. A commemorative certificate and a souvenir of World Expo
2010 will soon be sent to each and every author having participated in the event
of emblem solicitation and collection.
We hereby extend our heart-felt gratitude to all participants and supporters
of the event and to all those who have showed their care for the event. We
firmly believe the emblem will play an important role in delivering the concept
of the World Expo 2010 Shanghai China and best display the theme of "Better
City, Better Life." With the participation of all society, the World Expo 2010
to be held in Shanghai will surely come out to be one of the most successful,
splendid and unforgettable event in the history of World Expositions and leave
behind a valuable spiritual legacy to be cherished by all
mankind.
