Zhou Hanmin, deputy director general of the Bureau of
Shanghai World Expo Coordination
United Nations yesterday held The 6th Information Service Annual
Council in Madrid, the capital of Spain. Zhou Hanmin, deputy director general of
the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, was invited to the meeting and
addressed on "the World Expo Shanghai 2010," to promote and to call for a wider
collaboration with UN.
Zhou's speech covered the current statues of the participations,
plans of the Expo site, transport arrangement, and the preparations of the Urban
Best Practice Area.
The meeting is to last for two days. More than 30
organizations attended the meeting, including International Monetary Fund (IMF),
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), UNESCO, United Nations Environment
Program (UNEP), UN-HABITAT, World Health Organization (WHO), World
Meteorological Organization (WMO), and World Bank.
Before the meeting, Zhou had technical talks with Jane Nyakairu, the
representative of UN-HABITAT, including a discussion on pavilion
construction, theme demonstration, exhibition designs.
UN confirmed its participation on July 17, 2006, appointing Las Reutersward,
director of global division of UN-HABITAT, as the commissioner general of the
Epxo 2010. The UN-HABITAT is the main organization of UN that
coordinates with the Expo organizers.
