The World Expo national tour exhibition has raised a lot of interest in Guiyang, capital of Guizhou Province, as a promotion week started there yesterday.

Though some trucks transporting the exhibits were delayed by heavy snowfall, workers did their best to put up an informative exhibition anyway, the organizers said.

The "three treasures" of Guizhou -- the baijiu Maotai (Chinese liquor), Dafang lacquered ware; and Duyun Maojian, a kind of tea leaf -- are at the exhibition.

The three were former winners of the golden prize at past World Expos. The famous Maotai came to world attention in San Francisco at the Panama Pacific International Exposition 1915.

It celebrated the inauguration of the Panama Canal. Maotai won a gold medal as exhibitors accidentally smashed a bottle and its flavor attracted the attention of visitors.

Yuan Renguo, president, general manager of Kweichou Moutai Co Ltd, said the company, which makes the famous Chinese liquor, is considering bringing Maotai to a bigger platform at the Shanghai Expo.

Retired worker Yin Shucheng said the exhibition is very informative. "The World Expo has a 157-year history and it is the first time China has hosted a universal one. How could we not be interested," Yin said.

The exhibition is held in an exhibition hall beside the People's Square of Guiyang, where a statue of the late Chairman Mao can be found.
